Transportation GIS Initiatives by CTDOT
JENNIFER PAWELZIK, GIS and Database Programmer | CTSRC at University of Connecticut Jennifer Pawelzik is a GIS and Database Programmer with the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center (CTSRC) at the University of Connecticut. She has worked on a variety of applied and research-based projects utilizing GIS to help answer transportation safety questions. Jennifer earned her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from King’s College where she was first introduced to GIS through data collection and analysis. She later went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Geospatial Information Science and Technology from North Carolina State University. For their efforts, Greg and the Enterprise GIS team at CTDOT were awarded a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award by Esri in 2022, an honored bestowed upon fewer than 200 of the 100,000 Esri clients worldwide each year. JENNY PETRARIO, GIS Analyst | CTDOT Jenny is a GIS Analyst with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT). She has worked on a variety of transportation projects utilizing GIS to streamline efficiency and data quality across the DOT. Jenny received her Environmental Earth Science Degree with a minor in GIS from Eastern Connecticut State University. She later completed her master’s in Environmental Earth Science and Management with a concentration in Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis from The University of Rhode Island. GREG CIPARELLI , Chief Data Officer | CTDOT Greg Ciparelli is the newly appointed Chief Data Officer for the Connecticut Department of Transportation in the Bureau of Policy & Planning and oversees the Enterprise GIS Unit. Greg is a 2004 graduate of Boston College with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Economics and has over 18 years of experience with the Connecticut Department of Transportation in a variety of data development, collection, and management efforts, including those related to MIRE, HPMS, and ARNOLD. He has also championed the Department’s efforts implementing its Transportation Enterprise Data (TED) Portal and Open Data platform that provides widespread access to authoritative and managed data and intuitive web-based applications to internal personnel, partners, and the public.
