Safety Manual | 2024

Vehicle Inspection Company vehicles are taken to a Company-approved mechanic for regular maintenance checks and oil changes. A log of such checks is kept by the Fleet Manager. If an Employee notices any sign of damage to the vehicle, receives a warning of low oil or fluids while he/she is driving the vehicle or notices anything that he/she reasonably believes should be checked, he/she should immediately report such damage to the Fleet Manager. Vehicle Infractions If an Employee receives a speeding ticket, parking ticket or any motor vehicle violation ticket, the ticket will be the Employee’s responsibility. BL may pay the ticket and then recoup from the Employee. Accidents If an Employee gets in an accident for whatever reason, while on Company business, the Employee should immediately take the following steps: · Take appropriate steps to secure the accident scene to minimize the risk of additional damage to persons or property. · Notify the Police Department (911) and his/her Supervisor. · Once the scene is secure and there is no risk of injury, the driver should immediately contact the Fleet Manager and then complete an Incident Report Form within 24 hours. See Emergency Response – Incident Investigation, Section 3.1. Motor Vehicle Record In order to keep BL Employees safe, minimize the Company’s liability and keep insurance premiums competitive, a point system has been established for violations that occur on Company time. The following chart outlines the corrective actions and explains the point system and the ramifications based on the risk category. BL reserves the right to review any Employee’s Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) record upon reasonable suspicion of any of the following violations occurring on Company time.

If there is a job trailer on the site, check in when you arrive and park in the designated parking area for visitors. If there is not a designated parking area do the following: · On the approach to the site, scan the site and park in a location that will allow for easy access while not interfering with the construction activities or traffic. It is preferred to walk farther and keep the vehicle in a safe location at a reasonable distance from construction activities and traffic. · When possible, park at a location where you will not need to move the vehicle again until you leave the site for the day. · Never park in close proximity to parked construction equipment. Though equipment may appear idle, it may be needed at a moment’s notice. · Be aware of site surface/road conditions and the weather. A raw land site may be stable in dry weather, but a little rain may make the ground too soft to drive on. · Be aware of future activities. Construction activities may move to the vicinity of your parking spot – you may need to move the vehicle. · Consider traffic patterns when choosing a parking spot and/or driving around a site. In a public right-of-way, traffic typically moves in one direction, while on a land development site construction equipment often moves in many different directions. Set your expectations accordingly. · Park at a location that will give you safe access into traffic again when leaving the site. Distracted Driving Company Employees may not use a hand-held cell phone while operating a Company vehicle, a rental vehicle used for Company business or when driving a personal vehicle for Company business – whether the vehicle is in motion or stopped at a traffic light. This includes, but is not limited to, answering or making phone calls, engaging in phone conversations, and reading or responding to emails, instant messages, and text messages. If Employees need to use their phones, they must pull over safely to the side of the road or another safe location if they need to use their phones.
